About Me
My name is Brinsley Skye and I’ve been a witch my whole life, of course, I didn’t know it at the time but it all started when I was a child. And like children do, I asked way too many questions and loved to ask the question “what are we?”. every time the answer was different, “We are everything”, “We are in a snowglobe on God’s dresser”, or my personal favorite “we are the film of a VHS tape”. I loved asking the existential questions as a kid because to me I lived in a fantasy world like the characters from my books.I always wanted them so much to be real, reading Hat Full of Sky by Terry Prachet, Narnia, Wrinkle in Time to name a few. Growing up without cable or internet helped out with that and the outside was my playground. I always had messy hair, dirty fingernails and rocks in my pocket.
When I was starting my teen years I started to discover a more natural lifestyle after having many health issues in high school. I started a vegetarian diet, and with that came the unraveling of discovering meditation, yoga. I befriended employees at a juice bar in the grocery store I worked at and had some of the most amazing conversations of my life from a different point of view than my christian raised background. Not long after I got a job in an all organic cafe that held drum circles, had meditation workshops and free yoga classes. On my own time I journaled about my meditations and what I was finding out about myself, conversed with my roommate about witchcraft and her wiccan path, and started to dabble in tarot along with clearing some blockages I had built over the years. My beliefs and my practice started to grow. I started to help my friends with herbal sachets and card readings.
Now I am in my 20s and have a baby girl, Ariella. She is my world and many times a day I wonder how much she has not discovered yet. When thinking about her and the childhood I want for her I know I want her to ask as many questions as she wants, fill her pockets with rocks, and get as dirty as her heart desires. She is my inspiration every day and if it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t have thought to start Herbal Honey Bee.
